Power County Hospital District is excited to welcome our newest physician to the community and District- Dr. Scott Conover. Dr. Conover will start seeing new patients at the Power County Family Clinic on July 17th. He will be joining current physician Dr. Garrett Seibold and Nurse Practitioner Linda Cassell at the Power County Family Clinic, Aberdeen Family Clinic, and will be doing Emergency Room and Hospital coverage as well.
Dr. Conover attended BYU-Idaho for his undergraduate studies in exercise science and went on to Des Moines University, College of Osteopathic Medicine for medical school. He recently completed his residency with the Idaho State University Family Residency program.
I spoke with him more about his passion for medicine and goals for the future. Growing up, he came from a family of mechanics and always thought he would eventually do the same kind of work, but he happened upon a medical introduction class at the end of high school and really enjoyed it. He continued to pursue more medical courses in college and did some shadowing at medical facilities and became hooked on the medical profession. He served a mission in Chile and then came back and continued his medical education to become a physician. He chose to pursue a career in family medicine for the variety that it offers in working with all ages and conditions. He also enjoys working with sports medicine, emergency care, and obstetrics.
He has also been very active during his training with various medical pursuits and interests including global health and humanitarian work. He has done medical missions in Honduras and Peru. He really enjoyed working with the people there and helping them. He said that the most common medical problem he’s seen in these areas is arthritis from the hard work the people do every day. He is also on the Board of Directors for Idaho Condor. They are a humanitarian group that puts together expeditions for medical missions to other countries in need of care. This type of work is also why he really enjoys working in rural areas like American Falls and Idaho to help patients get access to the care they need.
Besides a very busy schedule helping where he can he also enjoys every chance he gets to be in the great Idaho outdoors with his wife, Karissa and 4 boys- Jacob, Landon, Xander, and Ryker. His hobbies include most anything active and outside from rock climbing competitions, mountaineering, or mountain biking to skiing, soccer, and running. He has even done several fellowships, live scenarios, and trainings in wilderness medicine for search and rescue and stabilization care.
We are also delighted that Dr. Conover is fluent in Spanish to help us better serve the health care needs of our Hispanic population in the area. He is also planning to do OB-GYN care and prenatal visits here in American Falls at the Power County Family Clinic with deliveries in cooperation with the Pocatello Women’s Group and Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello. He is now certified in OB C-sections and deliveries.
We are really excited for him to join our community and share his knowledge, care, and enthusiasm with everyone. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Conover please call 226-1057!
