August 18th is Back to School Power County!

Health Checkups and Immunization time!

Summer is ending quickly, and the first day of school in Power County is coming up on August 18, 2025. Parents in American Falls and the surrounding area are getting ready with back-to-school shopping, transportation planning, and after-school activities. One of the most important things to add to your checklist is scheduling your child’s wellness checkup and immunizations.

Schedule a Routine Wellness Checkup

A well-child visit is recommended every year for children starting at age 4 through their teen years. At Power County Hospital District, our providers make sure your child is growing, developing, and staying healthy for the new school year.

During your child’s checkup, the provider will:
• Measure height and weight to track healthy growth
• Check blood pressure and overall physical condition
• Briefly assess language skills, hearing, and social skills
• Discuss any questions or concerns about your child’s health, growth, or behavior

Bring a list of any concerns you have. Our team can also provide referrals for speech therapy, physical therapy, or occupational therapy if needed.

Vision Testing for School Success

Good vision is critical for learning. Many vision problems are hard for parents to detect, especially if children try to pass vision tests without realizing they have trouble seeing. A quick in-office vision screening can catch problems early so your child can start school ready to succeed.

Stay Up to Date on Immunizations

Vaccines protect children from preventable diseases and are required for school attendance in Idaho. Before school starts, check your child’s immunization records and make sure they are current.

For younger children (Pre-Kindergarten): Complete the required vaccine series before age 5 to avoid catch-up shots.
For teens ages 9–18: Make sure they have received the Tdap booster, Meningococcal, and HPV vaccine series.

Bring your child’s immunization record to your appointment so your provider can confirm what is needed. The Power County Family Clinic can provide these vaccinations locally without having to travel out of town.

Update School Medical Forms

Once school starts, be sure to complete and return any emergency medical or nursing forms from your child’s school. Include updated information about:
• Allergies
• Medications
• Emergency contact numbers

Keeping this information current ensures teachers and staff can respond quickly in an emergency.
